Hello and Welcome!
I'm Erin. I’m a proofreader, editor, and writer, and I’d love to help you perfect your writing project! As a lifelong bookworm, I have an eagle eye for typos, spelling, and consistency while also keeping in mind the necessity of holding on to a writer’s freedom and creative license.
I have bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and Writing as well as a B.A. in Spanish with a Certificate in Spanish-English Translation and Interpretation. To that end, I also offer Spanish to English translation services for your book or documents.
I love working with anyone from first-time authors planning to self publish to universities and Ph.D. students who need to follow strict protocol as to publication requirements. Former and current clients include The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., Virginia Commonwealth University, along with poets, novelists, and short story writers.
I have also done translation work for the VCU School of Nursing’s Mobile Health and Wellness Program, Sportable, and the Richmond Health and Wellness Program.
Every writer can benefit from a second pair of eyes, and I’d love to be yours!
Copy editing includes reading for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, clarity, and style. This is generally the next step after completion of a draft. After a round of editing, you have the opportunity to go back and revise, making decisions to incorporate suggested changes as you go. The editing process can also include checking for inconsistencies regarding character names, place names, and continuity.
Proofreading is typically done at a later stage in the development of a manuscript, after a full copy edit. Here I will search for and find inconsistencies, typos, missing commas or quotation marks, etc. (And it’s also my favorite stage.) I will look for any errors that may have been overlooked in the editing process or introduced in revision to ensure your words are polished and perfect.
While interpretation deals with spoken language in the moment between speakers, translation is its written counterpart. With a certification in Spanish-English Translation and Interpretation and a bachelor’s degree in the Spanish language, I am equipped to translate your book or document from Spanish into English, with high accuracy and maintenance of your voice and style as closely as possible.
"I could not be happier with the final product. [Erin] quickly grasped the nature of my writings. She made me look like a better writer AND made me a better writer. It has been a pleasure to work with her and I intend on using her for future efforts. If anyone feels the need to discuss her abilities, I would be happy to talk to you."

"Erin was a joy to work with; I’ve never worked with someone before that has such a keen eye for the written word. Multiple drafts of the novel had been closely reviewed and edited by several professional editors and writers, and I believed it was close to perfection. That was not the case— Erin uncovered an embarrassing number of grammatical errors. Fortunately for my ego, she was nice about it. She was also timely and kept within the budget we had agreed on. Thank you, Erin!"

"I wanted to put my poetry out there, but I'm insecure... So I asked a poet for help finding an editor, and he suggested Erin Levens. After a few days—sending the manuscript back and forth—I knew why she came so highly recommended. Easy to work with! Pleasant, professional and very knowledgeable! Easily understood my needs and addressed them all. I recommend Erin as an editor—she understands me."
